John Patrick Agnew, my father, was born on St. Patrick's Day in 1930. Every year, for as long as I can remember, he hosted a huge celebration. Invited relatives and friends crammed into our kitchen to sing Irish music, listen to my father's stories and jokes, and dance a jig. The aroma of mother's corned beef, ham, boiled potatoes and cabbage filled the air and green drinks flowed. There was always plenty to eat and drink, but most of all, there was an abundance of joy and love.

My father passed away on September 16, 2004, a man rich in the love of family and friends. He is the inspiration for  this collection of Irish songs, hence the title song, The Old Man. This music is a part of who I am, as a person and performer, and represents the full circle of my life through music, Irish culture and family heritage.

The selections for this CD are songs that stir the wonderful memories of my youth. I have sung these songs and told these stories, most of my life. While recording I drifted to my childhood, singing along with my cousins, listening to Uncle Bill sing Danny Boy. I was taken back to my father's graveside, where I sang The Parting Glass, a fitting farewell to a wonderful man.

I am very proud of this project. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed performing. My wish for you is to find a favorite among my favorites and to let the music take you wherever it is you need or want to go.
